OCAPICA
and the US Census
OCAPICA
is part of the California Asian and Pacific
Islander 2010 Census Network, also known as
API Count, is a
network of Asian and Pacific Islander organizations
that have come together to promote Asian and
Pacific Islander involvement in Census 2010
through coordinated advocacy, outreach, training,
and media work across the state. Spearheaded
by the Asian Pacific American
Legal Center , API Count comprises of
organizations spanning seven target regions
across the state that will be working with community
based organizations to provide direct outreach
and education to their respective ethnic communities.
OCAPICA has partnered up with 20 local Community
Based Organizations to help conduct outreach
not only in Orange County, but parts of San
Bernardino, San Gabriel Valley, and Riverside
as well.
OCAPICA
is also serving as a Questionnaire Assistance
Center to assist individuals in filling out
their Census forms. We are also a Be Counted
site where organizations and individuals may
come and get Census informational materials
such as brochures, flyers, posters, etc if they
wish. For up to date information on our API

is part of Coalition
of Asian Pacific Americans for Fair Redistricting
(CAPAFR), a statewide coalition working to strengthen
the voice of Asian American and Pacific Islander
communities in California during the 2011 redistricting
process. CAPAFR
is lead by nine organizations throughout the
state. Our goal is to encourage APIs to apply
for the Redistricting Commission of 2011. The
CA State Auditor will help create the Citizens
Redistricting Commission from December 12, 2009
to February 12, 2010. The first part of the
application is due February 12, and the second
part is due April 19. Public hearings will be
held and opened to the community to take part
in voicing how the lines will be re-drawn. For

California

cities in California. We now account for more
than 4 million people and our socio-economic
and educational profile is as diverse our composition.
We must articulate our views in this major public
policy movement.
